En 1748 María Agnesi publicaba la obra que la haría famosa, Instituzioni Analitiche ad uso della gioventù italiana. Sus instituciones analíticas, que pronto fueron traducidas al inglés y al francés, se convirtieron en un manual didáctico indispensable para los estudiantes de matemática. María había empezado su libro como un entretenimiento y con el principal objetivo de servirle de ayuda para la formación de algunos de sus hermanos pequeños.
